The World Series of Poker: Facts and Figures

Led by Jerry Yang who won $8,250,000, the world series of poker in 2007 left more millionaires and more 6-digit figure winners!

The world series of poker 2007 held 55 events. This number is 10 events more than last year's. Hel at the Rio Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, the World Series of Poker lasted 48 days. The tournament started on June 1 and culminated on July 18 with Jerry Yang bagging the main event cash prize. Tuan Lam won the second spot and $4, 840,981. Third prize was $3,048, 025 and was won by Raymond Rahme.

There were 54, 288 entrants to the tournament. This figure makes the world series of poker 2007 the most attended of all WSOP tournaments. There were also more women players in the 2007 events, their population number 1, 286.

During the world series of poker 2007, some changes to the structure had been made. For one, the starting chips of players in every event were made twice their buy-in. For instance, players in a $5,000 event had $10, 000 starting chips, while main event players had $20,000 starting bankroll. Raises to the blind structure had also been made.

Some of the ten added events include a $2,500 and a $5, 000 H.O.R.S.E. events. There were also more Omaha events in the world series of poker 2007 as well as more 7-card stud events.

The event with the cheapest seat cost was the 2nd event Casino Employees No Limit Hold 'em with a buy-in of $500 and entry fee of $50.

Whereas, the first event was $5,000 Limit/ No Limit Mixed Hold 'em. The 55th event was $10,000+$0 No Limit Texas Hold'em main event. There were 6,358 entrants to the main event. The main event actually started on July 6, 2007 but it ended only on July 18.

As part of the WSOP tradition, winners in every event received a coveted gold world series of poker 2007 bracelet plus cash prize.

Phil Helmuth won his 11th bracelet in the Event 15 No Limit Hold 'em. This made him the player with the most WSOP bracelets won, beating Doyle Brunson's and Johnny Chan's 10.

Tom Schneider was the Player of the Year. He had two gold bracelets to his name and he also reached the final table of one other event.

New poker records had been set at the world series of poker 2007. There were increases in population of registrants, increases in the number of women players, increases in the blind structure, increases in the number of events, and, as expected, increases in the number of millionaires and 6-digit poker table earners.
